About the Center

Prof. Bartoov – The Comprehensive Center for Male Fertility

The center is a private medical center, the leading and most professional center in its field in Israel.

Under one roof, the center, which has been operating for more than 35 years, offers diagnostic services, consultation and treatment for male fertility at the highest standard, through the development and implementation of male fertility methods and close cooperation between the patient, physician and laboratory.

The Center's Primary Activity

1. Ordinary fertility tests per standards of the World Health Organization (WHO).
2. Seminal enhancement for intrauterine insemination.
3. Motile sperm organelle morphology examination (MSOME)
4. Intracytoplasmic morphological sperm injection (IMSI) “Bartoov Method”
5. Treatment of men with no sperm – azoospermia
6. Male fertility consultation by Prof. Bartoov in order to ascertain the reasons for infertility and possible courses of treatment.

"The Bartoov Method" – Intracytoplasmic Morphological Sperm Injection (IMSI)

In which cases should one employ the Bartoov Method?
In couples who failed in in vitro fertilization (IVF) against a history of unexplained infertility (UI)
In men whose semen is extremely poor
In men who have undergone testicular sperm aspiration / testicular fine needle aspiration (TESA / TFNA)
In cases of recurring miscarriages in the first trimester and in MSOME – a high percentage of vacuoles in the sperm cell head
In couples who received a recommendation for an ovary donation, but the sperm cell quality in the MSOME is poor
How is this performed?
In these cases, isolated sperm cells with high nuclear structure quality can be sorted and selected. The selection and sorting are performed with the help of a photomicroscope, which enables examination of the cells under high magnification of up to 6,000.

The sorting is done in conjunction with aspiration of the selected ovaries and sperm cells, which are transferred in a cooler to the medical center, where the fertilization process is conducted. At this stage, the embryologist is asked to inject the highest quality sperm cells into the ovaries having the best morphological quality.

The method is based on 80 different parameters of sperm cell head structure. These parameters were developed by Prof. Bartoov following research of almost 20 years into the use of transmission (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which enable magnification of 20,000. For clinical use, a counter photomicroscope was developed that magnifies by 6,000 times aided by DIC optics.
Advantages of the Method
The method has been published in known scientific journals, and it:
Doubles the rate of pregnancies
Amplifies the rate of fetal implantation
Reduces the rate of first trimester miscarriages
Doubles the chance for live birth
Sorting sperm cells via high magnification for ovary donation abroad
There are patients who have failed in a large number of IVF fertility treatments and have been referred for fertility treatments abroad through the use of ovaries from a young donor. Although the ovaries used for fertilization in such treatment are generally of the highest quality, there are still patients who have failed several times in this treatment because of poor sperm morphology.

In such cases, we recommend sorting of the morphologically normal sperm cells and sending them for the ovary donation process. The sorting is also recommended in cases where a problem in sperm morphology is known in advance even before the couple suffers failure in the ovary donation process.
